Healing With Nature
A Garden
FOR A CUMBRIAN Cottage
“After a period of homelessness, a property came available on the edge of the a village in Cumbria. I loved the peace and quiet. The garden was very private with an old sandstone wall wrapping around it. When the 1st spring sprung I started to design and create a garden with the thought of living with it for 10 yrs, watching it grow. I had moved so frequently throughout my entire life, it was very appealing to me to put some roots down and stay put for a long while. I had started many gardens at my many addresses and since returning from Spain had been collecting plants and trees in pots. I hired a gardener for the digging and the hard graft. I collected trees and the plants I loved.
A blank canvas, just grass and a rhubarb patch. All my creativity, energy and love went into the garden. Verging on obsession, I was growing from lots of seeds every spring and propagating any plant I could. There was a lot of wildlife. Hanging out with the Bees and butterflies, became a zen like space for my overly busy mind.
Later in 2023 the garden was the start of my collaging again and appears in my work often.“ – Bryony Boughton
